Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) invites applications for JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP (JRF) tenable at Space Physics Laboratory (SPL) of VSSC from motivated candidates below the age of 28 years as on 30.06.2009, possessing First Class M.Sc. Degree in Physics/Applied Physics/Atmospheric Science/Meteorology/Space Science/Astronomy & Astrophysics with a minimum of 60% marks (or CGPA/CPI grading of 6.5 on a 10 point scale or equivalent) as per the details given below. Candidates who are slated to complete the M.Sc course in the academic year 2008-2009 are also eligible to apply provided final year mark list (satisfying the eligibility criteria) is produced at the time of written test/interview.
SPACE PHYSICS LABORATORY (SPL), VSSC
Space Physics Laboratory (SPL) offers excellent opportunities for conducting research in different disciplines of Atmospheric and Space Sciences. The fields include Boundary Layer Physics, Physics and Chemistry of Aerosols, Clouds, Radiation, Atmospheric Dynamics, Upper Atmospheric and Ionospheric-magnetospheric Physics, Planetary sciences etc. Well-equipped laboratories and major experimental facilities are available exclusively for these studies. The selected students will be working under the guidance of Senior Scientists of SPL on projects, which would lead to a PhD Degree. Selected candidates should be willing to work anywhere in India (including remote places) and on ship cruises to collect the required data. Applications will be received on-line only. The application format for on-line registration is available in the above website from 1000 hours on 08.06.2009 to 1700 hours on 19.06.2009.
Eligibility: : First Class (or equivalent with minimum of 60% marks as average of all semesters or CGPA/CPI grading of 6.5 on a 10 scale or equivalent) M.Sc Degree in
- Physics/Applied Physics/Atmospheric Science/Meteorology/Space Science/Astronomy & Astrophysics
M.Sc Candidates who are slated to complete the M.Sc course in the academic year 2007-08 are also eligible to apply provided final year mark list (satifying the eligibility criteria) is produced at the time of written test/interview.
Age Limit: 28 years as on 30.06.2009 (33 years in case of SC/ST candidates and 31 years for OBC candidates). Persons with Disabilities are eligible for age relaxation as per rules).
Selection Process: The qualification prescribed is the minimum requirement and the same does not automatically make candidates eligible for written test and interview.
Based on bio-data, initial screening will be conducted to short-list candidates for written test, the schedule and venue of which will be intimated. Candidates qualifying in the written test will have to appear for an interview. However, candidates who have cleared UGC - NET/CSIR for research fellowship(not lecturership) will be directly called for interview. The schedule and venue of written test/interview will be intimated later. Candidates qualifying in the written test will have to appear for an interview.
Pay and Allowances:

The Fellowship is initially for a period of ONE YEAR and is renewable annually for a total period of FIVE years. There will be a review of the activity before renewal. As of now, the Fellowship carries an amount of Rs. 12000/- per month, which might be increased to Rs. 14000/- after completion of two years. Candidates are also eligible for HRA as admissible to regular employees of VSSC.
General Conditions:
- Candidates should produce all the relevant certificates/testimonials as proof of age, educational qualification, caste, physical disability, experience, etc, at the time of written test/interview.
- Candidates who are already in employment under Central/State Government, Central/State Public Sector Undertakings or Autonomous Bodies have to produce a `No Objection Certificate' from the employer concerned at the time of written test/interview.
- Short-listed candidates appearing for the written test/interview will have to carry the call letter along with self-attested passport size colour photograph pasted on it.
- Selected candidates should be willing to work anywhere in India (including remote places) and on ship cruises to collect the required data.
- If any information furnished on-line is found to be wrong or false on verification, the candidate will not be interviewed and Travelling Allowance will not be paid.
- Candidates attending the written test/interview will be paid second class rail fare excluding the reservation charges/sleeper charges.
- ISRO reserves the right not to fill up any of the positions, if it so decides.
- Only Indian Nationals need apply.
- No interim correspondence will be entertained.
- Canvassing in any form will result in disqualification.
HOW TO APPLY Upon on-line registration, applicants will be provided with an on-line Registration Number, which should be carefully preserved for future reference. After submission, it is mandatory for the applicant to send the printed application form (confirmatory copy of the application) along with the following documents by speed post without which online application will not be considered. 1. Attested copies of all testimonials in proof of educational qualifications, caste, experience etc. 2. A No Objection Certificate from the employer concerned in respect of those applicants who are employed under Central/State Government/Public Sector Undertakings/ Autonomous Bodies. The above documents should reach within seven days of registering the application and in any case not later than 26.06.2009.
Guidelines To Fill The Online Application
STEP 1: REGISTRATION
You would require your e-mail ID to register. You can register only once using this e-mail ID.
Click on the link "Apply ". Fill all the fields and click on the 'SUBMIT' button. On successful registration, you will receive an e-mail with following details:

Subject: Reg: Advt.No.RMT246 of VSSC RECRUITMENT
Then click on the link given in the e-mail to open your online application form.
STEP 2: APPLICATION
Fill in all the information correctly and "SUBMIT". On Submission, you will have an opportunity to preview and confirm. Read all the details carefully. If any change is required, Click on "GO BACK".
To finally submit your application, click on "CONFIRM" button. On successful application, your registration number will be displayed on screen and an e-mail will be sent to you. Note down your Registration Number and keep in a safe place. This would be required for checking the status of your application in future.
STEP 3: Print the APPLICATION
This step is required to send your application summary by post.
Click on the "PRINT APPLICATION SUMMARY FORM" button. Take two print-outs of the form.
STEP 4: SEND SUMMARY FORM BY SPEED POST
This step is mandatory to complete the application procedure. Without this, your application will not be considered.
Send one copy affixed with your latest photograph and Testimonial together with copy of Qualifying Exam/Degree mark by Speed post to the address mentioned below super scribed in the cover Registration no,Advertisement No. VSSC-246,Dated 13.05.2009.
