Applications have been invited by Indian Institute of Technology, Patna for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme, starting in December 2011 in the following Departments:
Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Humanities and Social Sciences, Inter-Disciplinary research
Eligibility Criteria for Admission in to Ph.D. Programme:
In all the disciplines, the upper age limit is 28 years (B.Tech./B.E./M.Sc./MA/MCA/MBA) and 32 years (M.Tech./M.E./M.S./M.Phil.) and is applicable only for candidates applying in Regular and Full time category (Institute Fellows). Relaxation for SC/ST Candidates: Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ ST applicants.
PhD in Engg: Candidates having M.Tech./M.E. degree in a Engineering/Technology, with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology (from any Institute other than IITs) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 8.0 or 75% of marks OR Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0 OR Master’s degree in Science from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 70%.
PhD in Science: Master’s degree in Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks OR Master’s degree in Science/Engineering/Technology in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0 OR Bachelor’s degree in a related area in Engineering/Technology (from any Institute other than IITs/IISc) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 8.0 or 75% of marks.
PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences: Master’s degree in Arts/Commerce/Science in a relevant area with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent OR Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Science in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% marks OR Bachelor’s degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0 OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology (from any Institute other than IITs/IISc) in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.5 or 80% marks.

Application form can also be obtained from the Assistant Registrar, Indian Institute of Technology Patna, Patliputra Colony, Patna – 800 013, Bihar, on or before 12-10-2011 by ordinary post or in person. To receive application forms by post, send a request along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope (24cm x 15cm size). Request for form must be sent in an envelope superscribed with ‘Request for Ph.D. Application form’.
Filled in application forms complete with copies of mark sheets/certificates and other testimonials (both sides) and a Demand Draft for Rs.200/- for General/ OBC candidates and Rs.100/- for SC/ST/PD candidates drawn in any nationalized bank and payable at Patna in favour of IIT Patna should be sent to the Assistant Registrar, Indian Institute of Technology Patna, Patliputra Colony, Patna – 800 013, Bihar, to reach on or before 17th October 2011. The words “Application for Ph.D. admission in the Department of _________” should be written on the top of the envelope for sending the completed form.
Candidates applying for more than one department should submit a separate application for each department.

Date of Issue of Application Forms: 08-09-2011 onwards.
Last Date for issuing Application Forms is: 12-10-2011 (by post / in person)
Last Date for receipt of completed Application Forms by IIT Patna is: 17-10-2011
Note that the Application Form is available for downloading from 08-09-2011 to 12-10-2011.
