Category of Admission:
The Institute admits Ph.D. students under the full time category only: Full-Time Scholars
A. Institute Research Scholars with Teaching Assistantship (TA) #B. Govt./ Semi-Govt. Fellowship Awardees (FA) (CSIR, UGC, DAE, DBT, NBHM, Commonwealth Fellowship, Nehru Memorial Doctoral Fellowship, etc.)C. Foreign Scholars (FS) (ICCR Awardees) # As per MHRD Directives, candidate selected under TA category cannot accept or hold any appointment paid or otherwise or receive any emoluments, salary, stipend from any source during the tenure of TA ship. Hence, candidates selected for TA and having employment with or without pay with any organization/institution/establishment/project etc. must leave the job and submit relieving certificate before joining the Ph.D. programme under TA category. For Institute Fellowship i.e. TA (except candidates holding M.Tech / M.E./M.Phil degree) all should have qualified GATE or CSIR-JRF or CSIR-NET or UGC-JRF or UGC-NET.
Selection:
The Institute reserves the right to call a limited number of candidates for written test and/or interview, based on performance in GATE/NET, grades/marks in the qualifying examination, etc. Reservations:
The reservation of seats in admissions for SC, ST, OBC categories and for persons with disability (PD) will be as per Government of India rules. OBC (Non-creamy layer) candidates will have to produce certificate and selfdeclaration statement. Relaxation for SC/ST Candidates:
Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ ST applicants.
Financial Support:
The Institute assistantships will be available to eligible (Indian) students as per prevailing (MHRD, GOI) norms, as applicable from time to time. The students are encouraged and expected to complete the programme in about four years time. The period of validity of Ph.D. registration for all candidates is six years from the date of confirmation of registration (which commences after successful completion of course credit requirements). However, the extension of fellowship for the entire duration of Ph.D. is not automatic and is subject to institute rules. As part of the training, Ph.D. students are expected to assist in running the undergraduate labs and in other teaching and research assistance.
